About

Hi my name is Kallie and this is my blog Saudade on Sunday.  I live in Chicago with my husband Jeff.  I love cooking, movies, Chicago and taking pictures.  I love listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers, INXS, Cracker and Greek music (small obsession) and Adele.  Always Adele.  Oh, and I think that Billy Squire is underappreciated.  No really.  There.  I said it.

So, what is Saudade on Sunday about?  Well…

Saudade (European Portuguese: [sɐwˈðaðɨ], is a word in Portuguese that has no direct translation in English. It describes a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves.

Saudade was once described as “the love that remains” after someone is gone. Saudade is the recollection of feelings, experiences, places or events that once brought excitement, pleasure, well-being, which now triggers the senses and makes one live again.

So does that mean this blog will be about sad, melancholic things?  No, but I do have a loving nostalgia for a lot of things in my life.  It might be family recipes or places or songs that remind me of things that I love and I think this is a great place to keep all of those thoughts.  And to share them with you…mostly on Sundays.

😉

Welcome and enjoy.

P.S.  All the recipes on this blog are actual meals that I make in my home for us to eat, served exactly as you see them in the photos.  There is no food waste.  Food blogging many times is guilty of a dirty little secret of being wasteful.  And that’s a shame.  I take this seriously and try to never waste anything that is made for this blog.  My family eats what I make as you see it.  I do my best to make it visually appealing to you as a reader but also for my family to eat.  We eat with our eyes also, but if something isn’t perfect, well, that’s real life and that’s perfectly okay.  It’s real food and we eat it.  Having said that I hope that this encourages you, the reader, to feel that these results are achievable in your kitchen as well.
